On the Job & Apprenticeship Training Programs

Both on the job (OJT) and apprenticeship training programs are available for Veterans using their VA education benefits, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill. These programs allow Veterans to learn a trade or skill through training on the job participation rather than attending formal classroom instruction. Florida Apprenticeship Grant Program In October 2015, the U.S.

Department of Labor awarded a $5 Million grant to Florida State College of Jacksonville. The Florida Apprenticeship Grant, led by FSCJ, in partnership with St. Petersburg College and Broward College, works with businesses and other partners to enhance workers’ job skills and to close the employment gap specifically faced by Manufacturing, Information Technology, Healthcare and Construction/Trades industries across Florida. The Grant promotes growth and expansion of quality, sustainable and innovative apprenticeship programs. A total of 1,000 new apprentices will be served through this five-year grant program. With special efforts focused on veterans, their eligible spouses, minorities and females.

Florida IT Server Group

Florida State College at Jacksonville I-Tech Program

If you have been unemployed or underemployed for 27 weeks or more, Florida State College at Jacksonville’s I-Tech program can get you on the fast track to a career in the IT industry! Please visit their website to learn more.

FSCJ is one of 11 partner colleges in Complete Florida, the state of Florida’s online degree completion initiative. In addition FSCJ currently offers 11 online associate and bachelor degree programs through Complete Florida, a solution for adults with some college or no degree. Complete Florida makes the process simple and will help you build a pathway to a degree, by figuring out how to accelerate your education and how to fit it into your life. Their "coaches" work alongside as your personal advocate, counsel, and advisor. Scholarships are available for all of their programs! Google IT Support Professional Certificate Program in collaboration with the USO

The Microsoft Software & Systems Academy (MSSA)

Provides transitioning service members and veterans of the U.S. military the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to meet the IT industry's high demand for cloud developers, cloud administrators, database and business intelligence administrators and cybersecurity. Upon successful completion from the program, participants gain an interview for a full-time job at Microsoft or one of our participating partners.

Microsoft Virtual Academy

Enables IT professionals to become certified for free by world-class experts to help you build your technical skills and advance your career.

NS2 Serves is an independent, nonprofit organization established by SAP National Security Services, Inc. To give back to the community it serves they offer training and employment assistance to recent veterans of U.S. national security missions, whom are interested in high-tech careers.

Onward to Opportunity

The Onward to Opportunity Program at Tri-Base Jacksonville offers three career tracks: Customer Service Excellence, Information Technology and Business Management. You will begin with four days of face-to-face classroom training and facilitation that includes the two-day Onward to Your Career course and the two-day foundations course in a learning pathway of your choosing. The classroom portion is followed by 6-12 weeks of online coursework to earn an industry certification. While you complete your certification coursework, you will also participate in mixer/networking events with our National Employer Partners to hone your personal marketing techniques and skills. This is a way to gain inside perspective on careers in the private sector while introducing yourself to companies who are looking to hire O2O graduates. Operation New Uniform®

Operation New Uniform® seeks to train veterans and their families for fulfilling careers and develop their skills as they grow within an organization. They also aim to produce confident veterans who are coveted and embraced in the business community.

Operation New Uniform offers training and skills-based learning specifically designed for veterans and their families who are unemployed or underemployed. We do this through two unique programs: Finding the Uniform and Enhancing the Uniform. Each program is built with corporate and professional development training modules, often absent or misunderstood by the veteran population. Confidence, community, and careers are the cornerstones of Operation New Uniform. Through classroom training and coaching, veterans acquire additional confidence. ONU inserts veterans into the business community and a network of supporters. Veterans obtain fulfilling careers and have success after service though Operation New Uniform as well. Helmets to Hardhats is a national, nonprofit program that connects National Guard, Reserve, retired and transitioning active-duty military service members with skilled training and quality career opportunities in the construction industry. The program is designed to help military service members successfully transition back into civilian life by offering them the means to secure a quality career in the construction industry.

The Home Builders Institute

HBI offers training opportunities in the construction industry for military members and veterans. Their mission is to advance and provide education, career development, training and placement for men and women serving the building industry. Veterans In Piping Change

The Veterans in Piping program is a five-year apprenticeship program offered by the United Association that trains men and women in challenging trades while upholding the ideals of trade unionism. Veterans may receive training in plumbing, pipefitting, sprinkler fitting, HVAC service, or welding.

Green Veterans

The USGBC Green Veterans Group regenerate men and women who have served in the military for green jobs and green living. Veterans are reintegrated to a healthy lifestyle that focuses on green living and trauma resolution in the built environment, with emphasis on career development for green industry jobs and entrepreneurship. Our program participants receive on-the-job training for green industry professions by participating in veteran service-oriented projects with best inclass, proven community partners.

US Tech Vets  

U.S. Tech Vets is a free online community facilitating Veteran transitions to civilian careers within the technology industry and connecting employers across the country with Veteran and military spouse candidates.

Troops to Teachers

Troops to Teachers was established in 1993 to assist transitioning Service members and veterans in beginning new careers as K-12 school teachers in public, charter, and Bureau of Indian Affairs schools. The program provides counseling and referral services for participants to help them meet education and licensing requirements to teach and subsequently helps them secure a teaching position.
